Penn State Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology is a tight-knit community of faculty, staff, and students united by our passion for exploring microorganisms and improving health and sustainability. We work to advance the science of plant diseases, understand infection processes and the mechanisms of disease and host resistance, and identify environmental and nutritional factors influencing plant health.
This training was developed to aid plant disease diagnosticians and plant pathologists in the isolation and identification of common plant pathogenic Pythium spp that are found in North America.
The online training is free and is available to anyone. The training gives information on distinguishing Pythium spp. from similar genera and techniques for isolating Pythium from plant material and water samples.
The training also includes techniques for growing Pythium in water culture for identification and information on morphological and molecular identification of common Pythium groups and species.
