UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Jeremy Sutherland, a graduate student in the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences and the Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology, won first place in the 2021 Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR) Fellow Lightning Talk Competition.
FFAR Fellows consist of 80 Ph.D. students from 25 universities across the U.S. and Canada studying agronomy, food science, genomics, biosystems engineering and a dozen other fields in agriculture and the life sciences.
The annual Lightning Talk Competition provides an opportunity for fellows to create and practice science communication skills in an environment supported by peer mentorship. The competition also provides a platform for the fellows to share their talks with the public.
Sutherland’s lightning talk, “Better Prediction, Better Precision,” was selected for first place by a committee of science professionals and can be viewed on the FFAR YouTube channel.
Sutherland is advised by Terrence Bell, assistant professor in the Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology.
