Mycological Society of America awards Brenda Wingfield the Honorary Member, the highest award to international fungal scholars.

On July 19, 2017, Visiting Professor Dr. Brenda Wingfield received from the Mycological Society of America (MSA) the Honorary Member, the highest award to international fungal scholars. The Honorary Awards committee and the MSA gave this award to recognize her distinguished and long record of significant contributions to knowledge of fungal biology.

Outgoing MSA President Dr. Georgiana May, Professor at the University of Minnesota, presented the award to Dr. Wingfield at the MSA Annual Meeting held in Athens, Georgia, July 16-19. The 2017 meeting was titled "Translational Mycology: Putting Fungal Diversity to Work."

Dr. Wingfield plans to conclude her PPEM visit and return to South Africa on July 30.
