The Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology welcomed Dr. Samuel J. Martins as the new research technologist and lab manager for the Bull Lab on August 28, 2017.

Dr. Martins completed his Ph.D. in Plant Pathology in 2016 at the Federal University of Lavras in Brazil and taught as Professor of Plant Pathology for the past two years at the Federal University of Goias in Brazil.

Samuel's research interests focus on phytobacteriology and biological control of plant diseases by the use of beneficial bacteria. Currently, he works on distinguishing among closely-related bacterial plant pathogens by using multilocus sequence anaylsis (MLSA).
