The Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology recently welcomed Assistant Professor of International Agriculture, Melanie Miller Foster.

Miller Foster has worked closely with the department on several projects in the past, including refining survey instruments with Bull Lab for global plant disease clinics and co-instructing INTAD 820 with Associate Professors María del Mar Jiménez Gasco and Gretchen Kuldau. She is currently co-instructing the course with Paul Esker, assistant professor of epidemiology and field crop pathology. Miller Foster is the coordinator for the Global Faculty Learning Community, which includes several Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology faculty members.
As assistant professor, she is responsible for leadership of the dual-title graduate degree program in International Agriculture and Development where she advises all enrollees and co-instructs the foundational course of the program. In addition, Miller Foster lends vision and leadership to the College of Agricultural Sciences' programs in Latin America and Ukraine and has a thematic interest in youth development. Miller Foster is the Global Learning Specialist for the Global Teach Ag! initiative in the Center for Professional Personnel Development for school-based agricultural education. Her research program is focused on global competency, global learning and transformative learning experiences, with active programs in Latin America and Asia. Miller Foster has a passion for helping students, instructors and programs tell their story of global impact by expanding digital literacy in participants through engagement in multiple social media platforms.
