Yang Lab Provides Novel Insight into How Plants Regulate Biotic and Abiotic Stress Resistance

The laboratory of Dr. Yinong Yang recently published a research paper titled “Direct Phosphorylation and Activation of a Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase by a Calcium-Dependent Protein Kinase in Rice” in Plant Cell, a top journal in plant science.

The Plant Cell article was authored by Kabin Xie (postdoc), Jianping Chen (former Ph.D. student), Qin Wang (research technologist), and Yinong Yang. The study reveals a novel mechanism that regulates the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade by a calcium-dependent protein kinase (CDPK) in land plants. The finding provides new insight into the crosstalk mechanism between the CDPK and MAPK pathways and identifies a role for this mechanism in stress signal transduction and plant immunity.
