Department of Plant Pathology’s Annual International Cookie Bake-off Contest

Posted: February 17, 2012

Thursday through Friday, February 16-17, was the Department of Plant Pathology’s annual international cookie bake-off contest.
L-R: Sara Bardsley, Gretchen Kuldau, and Kim Paley

L-R: Sara Bardsley, Gretchen Kuldau, and Kim Paley

The proud winners were Sarah Bardsley (most unique), Gretchen Kuldau (best all around), and Kim Paley (most delicious).  Cookies were provided by about 15 contestants and judging was done by approximately 50 various self-proclaimed cookie expert judges who appeared magically out of the assorted doorways lining the hallways of Buckhout Laboratory.  Judging occurred all day Thursday, voting was completed by 3 PM, and awards received at a final tasting on Friday.  Medical crews were on alert for possible cookie overdosing by participants, however, no fatalities were reported.  It is suspected that stationary exercise bikes and jogging machines experienced increased use over the following weekend, once they were cleared of storage boxes and drying laundry.  There was an unanimous vote to continue the competition again next year, so get ready with those recipes.
