Pathogen refuge is a concept of a pathogen population that is able to escape from or is not susceptible to a control agent. Over time, plant pathogens have been under selective pressures to obtain refuges and they do so by using multiple mechanisms. Biological controls are effective agents that reduce the pathogen refuge with different ranges of success. Integrating our knowledge of the pathogen refuge with biological control research will improve and optimize future control agents. How pathogens are able to obtain a refuge and strategies to minimize the refuge regarding biological control will be explored.
