On March 29, the Penn State Chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta (GSD), the Honor Society for Agriculture, held its 22nd Annual Graduate and Undergraduate Research Expo on the Life Sciences Bridge. This year eighty posters were presented (forty-two undergraduate and thirty-eight graduate students) and evaluated by more than thirty-seven judges, including seven from the Department of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology (PPEM). Special thanks to Laura Ramos-Sepulveda, Paolo Margaria, Tim McNellis, Michele Mansfield, Beth Gugino (GSD Vice President), Cristina Rosa, and Judy Sinn who represented the department well with this important task. Students from PPEM who presented posters included undergraduates Elena Christian, Kevin Smeltz, and Vincent Mele working with Dr. Tim McNellis, Hunter Swisher working with Dr. Gretchen Kuldau, and graduate students Anita Behari, Kristi Fenstermacher, Freddy Magdama, and Chris Smyth.

On March 31, GSD held its Celebration of Excellence Ceremony in collaboration with the College of Agricultural Sciences. Over $3,900 in research awards were distributed to nineteen recipients, including Freddy Magdama who placed first in the Graduate Biological Science category.

Five PPEM members (Drs. Carolee Bull and Paolo Margaria and graduate students Laura del Sol Bautista Jalón, Freddy Magdama, and Bastian Minkenberg) were also inducted as lifetime members into Gamma Sigma Delta for their scholarly and professional achievements.
