On Saturday, August 20, several Dept. of Plant Pathology and Environmental Microbiology (PPEM) members displayed research-related materials and answered questions during this month's outreach at the North Atherton Farmers Market.

Brian Aynardi's display featured common turf diseases. Research on Verticillium wilt of potatoes was displayed by Laura del Sol Bautista Jalón. Joe Walls displayed a software application designed to assist wheat growers with aphid monitoring and decision making.

Department members answered questions about common garden diseases typical for this time of year, such as Blossom end rot and early blight in vegetable gardens. They also played some games with the public to reveal the different types of plants found in ordinary daily food.

The monthly outreach event at the North Atherton Farmers Market is organized by the Plant Pathology Association in collaboration with students in the Dept. of Plant Science and included Plant Biology Ph.D. candidates Stephanie Klein and Molly Hanlon today.
