I work on the etiology and epidemiology of Syzygites megalocarpus, a fungal pathogen of other fungi about which little is known. Recently, this pathogen attacked and caused damage to a crop of button mushrooms, Agaricus bisporus. I would like to understand how this pathogen infects the mushroom, e.g., a biotroph or necrotroph, how it spreads, if there are genetic differences between the specimens found in the wild and those found in mushroom houses, and the broad implications of the answers to these questions.
